Enabling multi-factor authentication
If you’re an event organizer, you can enroll in multi-factor authentication (MFA) using an authenticator app. Authenticator apps help keep your data secure by preventing unauthorized users from accessing your account. MFA can be set up during login or within your account settings.
To get started, download an authenticator app, such as Google Authenticator, from the App Store or Google Play. You might need to create an account with the app you choose.
Eventbrite MFA is configured per login credentials, not as an organization-wide setting. Each teammate should use their own Eventbrite login, be invited to the organization with the appropriate role, and enroll in MFA separately. If multiple people share a single login, they also share that login’s authenticator and recovery codes, so one person’s MFA enrollment can affect everyone using those credentials.
Set up multi-factor authentication during login
- Go to Eventbrite.com and select Log In.
- Enter your login details. Then select Continue.
- Select Continue again to add an extra layer of security to your account. You can also choose Skip for now, and we'll remind you again in 3 days.
- To continue, check your email for a code from Eventbrite. Then enter that code on the Eventbrite login page. If you can't find the email, check your spam or junk folder.
After entering the code sent to your email, you'll be prompted to scan a QR code using your authenticator app.
- Go to your authenticator app and add your Eventbrite login. This process may vary, depending on the authenticator app you're using.
- Scan the QR code using your authenticator app. If you're unable to scan the QR code, your authenticator app will display a one-time code that you can enter manually instead. This code is different than the code sent to your email.
- Select Continue.
- Next, you'll be given a recovery code. Copy the code and store it in a safe place. This one-time code can be used to log in if you lose access to your authenticator app. A new recovery code will be generated after each use.
- Select Continue.
Enable multi-factor authentication in your account settings
If you're an organizer and already logged in to your Eventbrite account, you can enable multi-factor authentication in your account settings.
- Go to Account settings.
- Go to Multi-Factor Authentication.
- Select Enable multi-factor authentication.
- Check your email for a code from Eventbrite. If you can't find the email, check your spam or junk folder.
- Go back to Eventbrite and enter the code. Then select Submit.
After entering the code sent to your email, you'll be prompted to scan a QR code using your authenticator app.
- Go to your authenticator app and add your Eventbrite login. This process may vary, depending on the authenticator app you're using.
- Scan the QR code using your authenticator app. If you're unable to scan the QR code, your authenticator app will display a one-time code that you can enter on Eventbrite manually instead. This is different than the one-time code sent to your email.
- Select Continue.
- You'll be given a recovery code. Copy the code and store it in a safe place. This one-time code can be used to log in if you lose access to your authenticator app. A new recovery code will be generated after each use.
- Select Continue.
Enable biometrics for faster sign-in
Once you've set up multi-factor authentication and copied your recovery code, you'll be given the option to enable biometrics for faster sign-in. This means if you’re using a compatible device, you can enable Touch ID or face recognition to help quickly verify your identity during authentication. Choose Remind me later or Not on this device if you don't want to log in with biometrics. Otherwise:
- Select Continue to register your device.
- Confirm your registration and save your device.
- Select Continue.
Log in using multi-factor authentication
- Go to log in.
- Enter your email and password.
- Choose Google Authenticator or similar, or Recovery code to verify your identity.
- Google Authenticator or similar: Enter the code provided by your authenticator app. Then select Continue.
- Recovery code: Enter the recovery code provided by Eventbrite when you enabled multi-factor authentication for your account. Each time a recovery code is used, a new one will be generated and provided to you at that time.
- Select Continue.
Remove multi-factor authentication
Eventbrite does not offer a self-service option to turn off MFA. Multi-factor authentication can be removed after we verify that you’re authorized to access the account. For security, we’ll ask you to answer verification questions and then apply a 48-hour security waiting period. If no objection is received during that period, we can proceed with removing MFA.
Please do not send your password, recovery code, authentication code, or full bank account details. If you can still access the account, we recommend using individual team members' logins rather than sharing a single account login.
Troubleshooting your login
You've exceeded the number of incorrect login attempts
For security reasons, Eventbrite will lock your account after 10 incorrect login attempts. To resolve this, wait 6 minutes and try again. If you’re still unable to log in, you might need to reset your password.
You're using shared login credentials
If you're not using a default check-in role and you share your account with someone who enables multi-factor authentication, anyone who logs in using those credentials will be prompted to verify their identity.
If you use a single login for your event's check-in staff, assign them to a default check-in role. If you have a team member who needs more than check-in permissions, create a custom role for them instead. This allows additional users to log in and help manage their events using their own separate login credentials.
Your recovery code isn't working
When enrolling in multi-factor authentication, a recovery code is provided to the person who enrolled in case they're unable to access their authenticator app at any point. This code can only be used once. Each time a recovery code is used, a new code is generated and provided at that time. If the recovery code you entered isn't working, it means the code has already been used.
Your authenticator app isn't working
For troubleshooting assistance with an authenticator app, contact the app’s provider.
You don't see Multi-Factor Authentication in Account settings
If you don't see Multi-Factor Authentication in Account settings, sign out and go to Eventbrite’s sign-in page, enter your email, select Sign in with a one-time code, enter the code from your email, and follow the prompts to enroll (authenticator app, then save the recovery code).
Troubleshooting MFA when replacing your phone
If you’re replacing your phone, keep access to your current authenticator or recovery code until the new method is set up. If you can access the old authenticator, use its code to sign in and follow the MFA settings to enroll your new authenticator. If you no longer have access to the old authenticator or recovery code, try signing in with a one-time code sent to the email address registered to the account. If you regain access, enroll your new phone in MFA. If the one-time-code option is unavailable or doesn’t restore access, we’ll need to reset your MFA enrollment before you can add your new phone.
